Escape
Final Artwork

Artist Statement
This is a photo that is meant to represent the word Escape in reference to the mental disorder Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This is an illness that inflicts those who have been through a traumatic life experience or event. It is most common in Veterans, but almost anyone can get it if they are traumatized enough. I wanted to portray how these people can't escape from the memories or after-effects of their trauma. The way it can cling onto them an they have to work extremely hard to escape from it.
This is a photo meant to personify that feeling of how the trauma grasps onto a person and refuses to let go. There are two hands in this photo one which is meant to symbolize the victim, and the other is the personification of the trauma. The victim is in full color to show they are in the present, in the moment, and the fist is clenched to show they struggle they are going through and how they are fighting against it. The trauma is in black and white to evoke that feeling of it being in the past and not truly here. It is also grasping onto the victim to show that connection and grip it has.
