Metaphoric Still Life

Artist Statement
My still life picture is a depiction of the Seven Deadly Sins with a hint of Pandora's Box. The Seven Deadly Sins are: pride, lust, wrath, envy, sloth, gluttony, and greed. They have always fascinated me and I thought they would make a great still life as there are so many wonderful scenes I could set up, and a million metaphors I could use for each sin. The Pandora's Box is a box that holds the sins and there is a mythical story behind it about how Pandora one day opened the box and all the sins came flooding into the world. I wanted to show a symbolic scene of the scenes leaving the box.
In order to create this scene I used quite a bit of symbolism. Pride was symbolized by the medal which is being held on the red ribbon that is slowly creeping out of the box. Wrath was symbolized by the knife with blood on it that is stuck in the ground through the middle of a white flower. Lust is symbolized by the many white flowers and petals that have been crushed with blood on them, this using the widely known mage of a white flower as virginity and the destruction of it. The yellow flowers are a universal for envy as they represent such in the language of flowers and as such represent it here. Sloth is represented by the blanket that has slowly wound it's way around the box and is slowly engulfing it. Gluttony is represented by the kitchen utensils stuck in the ground in a cluster making their way forward. Finally, greed is symbolized by the money spread all around the ground for obvious reasons. The background is a simply grass-covered ground in order to show the naturalness of the scene; and consequently, how these sins are a part of nature, and more specifically, human nature.
